Roadmap to Opening

Turning an educational vision into a safe, lawful, financially sustainable school requires measurable steps. This page shows the work that must be completed before Aberewa opens.

Current status: Aberewa Middle School is in development and is not yet open or accepting students. Dates and available seats will be announced only after required approvals, funding, facilities, qualified staff, and safety systems are confirmed.

Status labels describe planning progress and do not represent government approval unless written approval is specifically identified.

1. Organization & Governance

Aberewa Middle School was organized in Louisiana on June 3, 2025.

In development

Institutional foundation

  • Recover and securely document the EIN
  • Confirm the legal school and tax structure
  • Establish an independent governing board
  • Adopt bylaws, conflict-of-interest rules, financial controls, and records policies
  • Obtain education-law and accounting guidance
  • Determine the appropriate nonprofit pathway

2. State Educational Requirements

  • Consult New Orleans zoning and permitting staff
  • Identify lease or acquisition candidates
  • Complete title, zoning, environmental, insurance, and property-condition review
  • Obtain architectural and construction estimates before committing

Safety and occupancy

  • Complete State Fire Marshal plan review when required
  • Address accessibility, exits, alarms, sprinklers, restrooms, and building systems
  • Obtain renovation and change-of-use permits
  • Complete inspections and receive authorization to occupy the building
  • Establish emergency, evacuation, medical, and family-reunification plans

5. Leadership, Staffing & Student Services

Qualified personnel

  • Recruit the principal and special-education leadership
  • Hire classroom teams in stages matching confirmed enrollment
  • Secure qualified related-service, nursing, counseling, behavioral, substitute, and operations personnel
  • Complete background checks, training, payroll, benefits, and personnel systems

  • Finalize individualized admission-readiness procedures
  • Arrange assistive technology and accessible learning materials
  • Establish transportation, food-service, medication, privacy, and records procedures
  • Match admitted students with services the school can safely and consistently provide

6. Final Opening Readiness

Verify

Confirm written approvals, occupancy authorization, insurance, policies, contracts, funding, and safely staffed seats.

Prepare

Complete staff training, classroom setup, accessibility checks, emergency drills, family orientation, and student-transition planning.

Open responsibly

Announce an opening date and enrollment availability only after the complete readiness review is satisfied.

Public Accountability

This roadmap will be updated as milestones are documented. Aberewa will distinguish plans from completed actions and will not identify a milestone as approved until written confirmation is available.

Information kept private: EIN and account numbers, private donor identities, student information, security details, unexecuted contracts, and property addresses under confidential negotiation will not be published.
